Flex Lewis, 2017 & 6X Mr. Olympia 212 Bodybuilding Champion

James “Flex” Lewis is the Welsh bodybuilder, who idolized Arnold Schwarzenegger as a child, and has followed in his footsteps by winning his sixth consecutive title at Mr. Olympia 2017 this past September in Las Vegas. Inspired by Tom Platz’s legs, Flex began his bodybuilding journey at the age of 12 when he started weight training at home despite his parent’s prohibition. At 15, he joined his first gym because as a high school rugby player, he needed to gain some size for the sport. It was there that he met Steve Naylor, a local bodybuilder who he trained with for a year before entering and winning his first bodybuilding competition, the Junior Mr. Wales. After graduation he took his bodybuilding training more seriously and was able to establish himself on stage in the UK before heading to the U.S. His nickname, ‘Flex’, originated not in the weight room, but during his years playing elite level rugby in his native Wales since his flexibility allowed him to dodge tackles as a winger on the pitch. Now, as a six-time winner of Mr. Olympia, Lewis is recognized as possessing the world’s greatest 212 physique. “My accomplishments are a true testament to what dedication and hard work can get you,” he said. “If you want something bad enough and set your mind to it, it can be achieved.” It would be wise for many of us dreamers to adopt his motto and “get in and get it done.”
