Dining at DADA

Just Like Feasting at a Friend’s Home

Nestled on Swinton Avenue in Downtown Delray Beach sits Dada, a very popular restaurant and lounge with a comfortable home-like atmosphere, boasting a customer list a mile long. Dada’s original building was constructed in 1924 and currently Dada showcases each room decorated slightly differently with multiple themes as beautiful artwork decorates the walls.
“Dada, French for hobby horse, was an art movement of the European avant garde in the early 20th century,” according to owners Rodney Mayo, Scott Freilich and Chef Bruce Feingold. “Dada was founded on principles of irrationality, incongruity, and irreverence towards accepted aesthetic and cultural values. This historic home was built during Dada’s prime and the restaurant was founded on similar feelings towards the accepted norms of restaurant and nightlife in South Florida and thus they arrived at their name sake.”
As candles flickered on the tables, the warm ambiance enveloped us as if we were entering a friend’s home for dinner. We began our culinary adventure with deliciously sweet Crab Cakes with a trio of sauces, fresh Ahi Tuna Tartare with soy sake vinaigrette and wasabi aioli, and a crispy Short Rib Flatbread with scallions, water chestnuts, blue cheese, guava and sweet soy drizzle. Irresistible Dada Dates are bacon-wrapped medjool dates with goat cheese, chorizo, and tomato confit. Perfect to share was the chilled Stilton Endive Salad with candied walnuts, Stilton blue cheese, and fig mostarda along with the Kale Caesar with shaved parmesan, anchovies and crumbled egg.

Savoring our entrees, we enjoyed the tender Mesquite Rib Eye with bacon onion jam and mashed potatoes that were grilled to perfection. Roasted Duck lathered with Contreau Noir Glaze, onion raisin marmalade and yellow rice was succulent and crispy, while the Butternut Squash Ravioli swam in a thyme cream sauce with asparagus, tomatoes and artichokes. On a lighter note, don’t miss the Seven Cheese Grilled Cheese luscious blend of cheddar, Swiss, goat, blue, sheep feta, American, and provolone, served with tomato bisque, or the Deviled Egg and Shrimp Pappardelle with jumbo shrimp, crumbled egg, Dijon mustard butter and toasted crunch … yum! Blackened Redfish with gnocchi, herb brown butter, tomato and Parmesan cheese burst with flavor, while the Habanero Maple Glaze Salmon tantalized our taste buds.
As we lingered over our steaming cappuccinos, our sweet ending included the decadent Dada S’mores, layers of graham cracker crust, dark chocolate mousse and toasted marshmallow meringue, and The Bunny, a sticky brownie five-spice bacon sundae with vanilla ice cream smothered with an amazing bacon caramel sauce. The Nutella Crème Brulee loaded with hazelnut puree and chocolate was creamy and rich, and the Warm Banana Bread was doused in caramelized banana caramel sauce over vanilla ice cream.
From movies on the lawn to craft bazaars and various bands playing through the week, Dada offers something for everyone. Bon appétit.
