Gianni’s at the Villa

Everyone who has visited South Beach’s Ocean Drive has walked by the former Versace mansion wonderstruck; some have even entered and toured the magnificent home. But for the ultimate glamorous experience, reserve a table at Gianni’s at the Villa. My evening began with soothing live entertainment by the breathtaking azure pool; soon the night’s chill brought us inside to finish our meal in what was once Gianni’s stunning mosaic-walled dining room. There was no doubt in my mind that this night would be very tough to top once I heard the tale of how Gianni Versace himself designed, commissioned, and supervised the incredible montage down to the last pebble brought from Italy.

Tuna Tartare and Black Truffle Risotto were the perfect starters; the cool, light kick of the tuna harmonized with the salty, warm creaminess of the risotto. Passion and a 24K Gold Margarita quenched our thirst with tangy, sweet passion fruit and citrusy tequila flavors as we waited for our main course. The Dorade layered two dolphin fillets over eggplant puree and crisp artichoke, topped with a Viege sauce and vine ripe tomatoes. Golden steak fries accompanied the 14oz Black Angus dry-aged NY Strip steak that sent us into a savory bliss with each bite.

Next, to our delight, Kurobuta pork Dinner ended on a sweet note—a sweet golden note! Crumbled carrot cake garnished with fresh berries and a golden ball ventured to our table and before we knew it, hot chocolate was being poured over it, melting the golden chocolate shell and exposing the chilly vanilla ice cream center. After, came a gorgeous Versace branded strawberry shortcake stacked with Bavarian vanilla and strawberry caviar, all surrounded by airy passion fruit mousse and more fresh berries. A foamy macchiato and a tour of the Villa Casa Casaurina closed out a most unforgettable evening. As we walked back onto Ocean Drive, one thing was certain…we will be back!
