A Successful Fresh Start

BROWARD COLLEGE AND HANDY TEAMED UP FOR A LOCAL DISTRIBUTION EVENT TO GIVE FAMILIES IN NEED A “FRESH START” BY SUPPLYING THEM WITH MUCH-NEEDED ESSENTIALS.

Broward College teamed up with HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth) and hosted the “Fresh Start” distribution event, sponsored by Valley Forge Fabrics, on October 3, 2020. During the event, 150 Broward County families arrived via drive-thru at HANDY’s headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, where they each received luxury bed-in-a-bag sets that included a sheet set, duvet cover, and either a blanket or pillow. They also received KN95 face masks courtesy of Valley Forge Fabrics. Families also received Dutch Pot Restaurant gift cards courtesy of the Miami Dolphins; oximeters to measure heart rate and oxygen levels; fresh produce from FreshPoint South Florida; and personal hygiene products including toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap donated by Shiff Construction. Additionally, families received Broward College/Broward UP drawstring bags, pens, and lanyards, as well as information about opportunities for individuals to upskill with Broward College for rapid re-entry into the job market.
