Florida’s Children Always Come First

Florida’s Children First (FCF) recognized Broward County child advocates and former foster youth at their 16th Annual Broward Child Advocacy Awards & Reception at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 22nd. More than 200 guests attended this event which was a challenge to follow the lead of our youth to pursue systemic change and advocate so that vulnerable children around the state will have both an attorney and guardian ad litem in their dependency action. FCF Executive Director Christina Spudeas along with FCF President and Talenfeld Law Managing Partner, Howard Talenfeld, led the event with 91.3 WLRN’s Joe Johnson serving as the evening’s emcee. This year’s “Champion for Children’s Rights” Honoree was Belinda Keiser, Vice Chancellor of Keiser University. Michael Higer, Esq., Florida Bar President and Partner at Berger Singerman LLP, was recognized with the “Champion for Children” Award. Both were honored for their important work in helping children have both attorneys and guardians. The event also highlighted the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the need to strengthen our community’s mental health system.
