Sailing for Success

Communities in Schools of Miami hosted its 29th annual fundraiser presented by Publix Super Markets Charities, on Saturday, April 14th at the Intercontinental in Doral. The fundraiser supports the educational programs and services that help over 20,000 South Florida students each year succeed in and out of school. “Communities in Schools of Miami has been impacting the lives of students in Miami-Dade County for 29 years, with the ultimate goal of keeping kids in school,” said Elyssa Linares, President & CEO of Communities in Schools of Miami. The theme of the 2018 charity event was “Sailing for Success,” a nautical-themed, family-friendly function that commemorated the organization’s dedication to empowering students (grades k-12) to stay in school through mentoring, tutoring, skill development, community resources, financial literacy and more. The event hosted 232 guests and included dinner and drinks as proceeds to benefit the organization, as well as silent auctions, craft sales, and activities for both children and adults, including a cookie decorating station, sand art and a photo booth. As part of Subaru’s “Share the Love” initiative, Subaru of America presented a $17,385 check to the organization.
