he full moon was glaring down as the breeze bellowed through the patio of S3. It was a picture perfect night on beautiful Fort Lauderdale beach as we began our culinary adventure. S3 is where sun, surf and sand uniquely fuse with steak, seafood and sushi, while providing the ultimate in oceanfront dining, offering fresh coastal cuisine and the closest spot to the ocean anywhere along Fort Lauderdale beach.
Upon entering, we were whisked away to an island-chic retreat complete with indoor/outdoor bar and terraced dining complemented by a lush outdoor patio with fire pits and custom lounge seating, providing endless, breathtaking views of the ocean. We instantly went into vacation mode, even if just for the evening. Now, just add to that a menu centered on sharable items, featuring the freshest daily catches and premium cuts of meat, and an expansive sushi bar to complement, and it’s clear that S3 is bringing a new wave of dining to the beach. Drawing from its upscale-casual, resort-like ambiance, the S3 dining concept blends a dynamic variety of coastal cuisines to create an oceanfront dining experience second to none. With their motto being “locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared”, we began with their irresistible Wok Seared Edamame with soy, togarashi and smoked salt as well as the Tuna Tower layered with Oshi-styled tuna, sushi rice, wasabi and guacamole. The Specialty Rolls are a must and we ventured to try the crunchy, sweet and spicy Thai Tuna with avocado, coconut, macadamia nuts, jalapeño wrapped in soy paper and the fresh Riceless Roll with tuna, salmon, hamachi, crab, avocado, tobiko in soy paper.
Continuing on with the sharing concept we devoured the tender Grilled Octopus with gigande beans and salsa verde…simply amazing! It just kept getting better as we enjoyed the grilled Shrimp Toast on Ciabatta bread with garlic butter, prosciutto and tomato along with the Wood Roasted Mushrooms with extra virgin olive, garlic and fresh herbs and Stir Fried Brussels Sprouts tossed with pork, mint, puffed rice and peanuts. Delicious Seafood Paella Style is served with fregola (type of pasta from Sardinia similar to Israeli couscous), chorizo, shrimp, clam, mussel, scallop, and market fish.
For those that don’t want to share and have your own entrée, the Large Plates offer a diverse selection for the discriminating palate of luscious Scottish Salmon, served with edamame, baby shiitake mushrooms, watermelon radish, drizzled with a truffle yuzu vinaigrette, Marinated Lamb Chops with chickpeas, tomato, feta, olives topped with a lemon oregano oil and Oak grilled Beef Rib Eye, sliced and served with asparagus and cippolini mushroom ragout… all grilled to perfection!
Sweet endings are not to be missed! Indulge with tantalizing array of a refreshing Sorbet Sandwich of tropical sorbet sandwiched between polenta cream cheese cookies, decadent Icky Sticky Toffee Pudding with house made toffee sauce, melt in your mouth Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts with crème anglaise and fresh berry preserves or the chocolate lover’s Triple Chocolate Bar layered with hazelnut praline, milk chocolate mousse and dark chocolate ganache.
