AN IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW WITH MODERN MIMES, AN ALTERNATIVE MUSIC DUO FROM FT. LAUDERDALE.
Who is Modern Mimes?
Was it difficult to come up with a name? Modern Mimes is Ernesto Paez on the double neck guitar/bass and vocalist/lyricist Adi Elcida Hernandez. We are an alternative band based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. The name wasn’t too difficult to come up with. It basically came together the same way that Adi writes her lyrics. It was something that came organically.
How have your musical backgrounds helped the sound of this duo?
Ernesto brings in a lot of inspiration from the music he grew up with. Basically, a lot of heavy rock and industrial music. Adi grew up listening to a wide range of influences including alternative rock, R&B, folk music, Latin, and pop music. When it comes to writing music, we both subconsciously blend the styles that we grew up with and loved and that helps bring a unique sound to Modern Mimes.
What was it like making the music video for “Stare”?
We had a great time making that video. We shot two music videos in twelve hours, so it was a little bit hectic. We worked with director Joey Durango, which was a really great experience. He understood our vision and really gave the song the artistic visuals it deserved.
What inspired your second album?
The Gray was inspired by a mixture of life experiences, observations, and dreams. There is an underlying theme of overcoming struggle and finding internal strength.
What do you hope is the message of your music?
We hope our listeners can be inspired to be the best versions of themselves. Although our music can be considered somewhat dark, the message is definitely that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
