Kawhi Anthony Leonard was born on June 29th, 1991 in Los Angeles, California. He attended Canyon Springs High School for his first two years and then moved on to Martin Luther King High School for his final two years. He helped lead his basketball team to a record of 30-3 while averaging 22.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. His high school career was only setting him up for great things to come.
Leonard chose to attend San Diego State University. He helped the team get to a 25-9 record by averaging 12.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. In his second year with the team, Leonard got them to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament where UConn eliminated them. That year the team finished at 34-2.
When the time came for the NBA draft, Leonard was chosen 15th overall by the Indiana Pacers, but ended up with the San Antonio Spurs after a draft-night trade. In Leonard’s second season he ended up in the NBA Finals as the Spurs faced the Miami Heat. Leonard averaged 14.6 points and 11.1 rebounds during the series, but the Spurs lost to the Heat in 7 games. In his third season in the NBA, Leonard helped lead the Spurs to the NBA Championship as they defeated the Heat in 5 games. After spending his first 6+ season with the Spurs, Leonard was traded to the Toronto Raptors and in his first (and last) season with them, guided them to their first-ever NBA Championship. Along with his two NBA Championships, he also won 2 NBA Finals MVPs. On July 10th, 2019, Leonard signed with his hometown, the Los Angeles Clippers, as he hopes to win his 3rd ring with his 3rd different team.
