Giada De Laurentiis… More Than Just Food

“Food brings people together on many different levels. IT’S NOURISHMENT OF THE SOUL AND BODY, it’s truly love.”

Although Giada De Laurentiis is the Emmy Award-winning star of Food Network’s Everyday Italian, Giada at Home, Giada in Italy, and Giada’s Holiday Handbook; she is also a judge on Food Network Star; a contributing correspondent for NBC’s Today show; as well as the author of seven New York Times bestselling books, she’s happiest in the kitchen. With an inbred weakness for the traditional Italian foods she grew up with, these days her approach to food, and life, is all about balancing indulgences with clean eating and keeping things easy. Giada says, “ I realized there is no place I feel more at ease, more grounded and more completely myself than in the kitchen. It’s where I can express my creativity, make important memories (and share life skills) with my daughter, and quiet all the noise of the outside world as I lose myself in the pure pleasure of making something beautiful and delicious. I am, quite simply, happy cooking.”

As a self-proclaimed chocoholic, Giada studied at Le Cordon Bleu, in Paris, with aspirations of becoming a pastry chef. After returning to the United States, she became a professional chef working in several Los Angeles restaurants before starting her own catering company, GDL Foods. She later worked as a food stylist and was contacted by the Food Network after styling a piece in Food & Wine Magazine in 2002.

With her new cookbook, “Happy Cooking: Make Every Meal Count… Without Stressing Out”, Giada shares how she fuels her busy life with recipes and helpful advice from hosting a potluck to what to pack for lunch. Drawing on the time-saving tips and healthy eating strategies that keep her functioning at the highest possible level, Giada uses ingredients that can be prepared on the fly, addressing the needs of everyday cooks who want to inject their weeknight meals with more flavor and healthful ingredients. Giana shares her ideas and hope they will inspire everyone to create a balance between nutrition and the occasional decadent indulgence. Filled with time-saving tips and healthy eating strategies, Happy Cooking is Giada’s guide to cooking up a happy life.

Opening her first restaurant, GIADA, inside the Cromwell in Las Vegas, the beautiful open kitchen boasts a menu, which includes Italian cuisine with Californian influences, along with views of the Bellagio fountains and Caesars Palace. Whether it’s a casual night with friends or a party in the kitchen, Giada knows how to make it an extra-special event. In her new daytime series, “Giada Entertains”, she shares tips, secrets and recipes for planning the perfect party.

Born in Rome, Giada grew up in Los Angeles, where she now lives with her daughter, Jade. Growing up in a large Italian family where the culture of food was a staple, she often found herself in the family’s kitchen and spent a great deal of time at her maternal grandfather film producer Dino De Laurentiis’ restaurant, DDL Foodshow. “My grandfather gave me inspiration to cook and love food and flavors. My Aunt Raffie, gave me creativity and inspiration to create new things. My mother inspires me to find simplicity in food,” says Giada.
