Good Deeds for Those in Need

It’s almost the official season of giving, but why not help out all year long? At these amazing charity happenings, you can donate and assist in raising money for some wonderful foundations. Go bowling to help those with critical illnesses, relish some of the best SoFlo food, and get a workout to spread cancer awareness! Lend a helping hand this month!

Sept. 2

The 11th Annual Oasis Charity Fete will be a celebration of Caribbean culture for a beneficial cause. Help support breast cancer research and awareness as you sip on drinks, dive into some of the best Caribbean food, and break it down on the dance floor to Soca, Reggae, and Top 40 Classics! The Oasis venue is designed to whisk you into an island paradise as you mingle and party with friends and family. Make sure to register for this grand event, and don’t forget to wear pink!

Sept. 8

Dust off those old bowling shoes and get ready to roll over to a phenomenal affair. The 28th Annual Bowling to Fight Hunger at Sawgrass Lanes will see that 100% of the earnings go towards The Poverello Center, which provides food as medicine to people living with chronic/ critical illnesses, including HIV. When you register, you get three bowling games, an event T-shirt, shoe rental, and a gift bag! Additionally, you can invest in a sponsorship opportunity to help raise more money, which can range from $500 – $12,500. For groups and individuals that raise the most money, there will be prize giveaways and silent auctions!

Sept. 8

“The most scrumptious night of the year” is coming to SoFlo once again, and for its Silver Anniversary! Ann Storck Center’s 25th Annual Celebrity Chefs Food Tasting & Auction will include culinary creations by South Florida’s most talented and well-known chefs. Some familiar participators that are sure to please are American Social, The Halal Guys, Brimstone, Tarpon River Brewing, Truluck’s, and Tijuana Taxi Co. Live entertainment, a silent auction, and other enjoyable activities will entertain and charm all guests that attend. Profits will benefit the Ann Storck Center’s mission to provide a loving environment to children with developmental disabilities.

Sept. 23

Get your running ‘fit on, and then get your fit(ness) on as you run/walk at this charity event. At the 3rd Annual Florida Teal 5K Run/ Fun Walk™ at Vista View Park, register to partake in the 5K run/walk, and you also get access to a free Kid’s Zone with bounce houses, face painting, rock climbing, a basketball court, and a photo booth, as well as free food and refreshments, free beer and wine, raffle giveaways, free T-shirts, music, and a fine arts and craft corner. All registered runners and walkers will also receive a medal at the finishing line! The walk acts as awareness for National Ovarian & Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, and proceeds will help the cause.

Sept. 29

General Provision, a coworking space in Fort Lauderdale, becomes Cocktails for Humanity once a month, where funds for varying non-profits are raised. This month, the beneficiary will be Broward Public Library Foundation’s Books ‘n Bears program, which provides a new book and a teddy bear to 2,000 underprivileged preschool children. Drink wine, beer, and cocktails (and tip well!) as you socialize and support an incredible foundation.
