Helping Hands

Entertaining events that double as a way to give back to the community are the best way to lend a helping hand this month! Taste more than 600 wines, attend a gala full of dancing and music, compete for a noble title, and spend an evening on a yacht full of treats! These are some ways to #dogood.

May 3

A Mother’s Day Luncheon like no other will be held at the Boca West Country Club to honor a very special mother: Shirley Weisman. She has been titled the “Woman of the Year” for her nonprofit work to help children all over. A boutique, silent auction, luncheon, and fashion show will be some of the festivities of the event. The latest fashion from the Rene Ruiz Collection will be featured in the Ike Behar Fashion Show, and the live auction will offer a $4,000 shopping spree at Rene Ruiz in Boca Raton.

May 5

The American Fine Wine Competition’s (AFWC) 11th Annual Charity Wine Gala will be a celebration of the finest wines produced in the United States. More than 600 award-winning wines will be featured at this fabulous event, as well as a grand feast, winery tasting rooms hosted by winemakers, auctions, music and celebrations. Awards for Winemaker and Winery of the Year will be awarded to their recipients, an exciting part of the evening. A portion of the proceeds from the gala will benefit the Autism Society of South Florida; come out to wine, dine & shine!

May 5

The American Cancer Society is the largest private, non-profit funder of cancer research in the United States, and at their Celebration Gala you can be a part of the progress too. Their gala will be a one-of- a-kind evening with a lovely dinner, dancing, music, live and silent auctions, a cocktail hour, and other activities. The theme is “Let’s Fiesta” and you will be able to do just that right on their very own dance floor.

May 19

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) has a main goal to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Help them reach their goal by taking part in their Man & Woman of the Year competition. Candidates all over the U.S. form different teams and go head-to-head to fundraise the most money. After a 10-week period, the man and woman who have raised the most funds for their teams will be awarded the Man & Woman of the Year titles for their community.

May 19

The 4th Annual Waterway Soirée Yacht Hop & Dockside Dessert Party will be a [boat] rockin’ time! Boating enthusiasts and members of the marine industry will enjoy this chic, yet causal affair. Board yacht after yacht as you taste some fine hors d’oeuvres, drink freely at the open bar, and feast on dinner from local restaurants. At the end of the night, a dockside party with desserts, dancing and live entertainment will steal the spotlight! The event will generate funds for Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC), which is one of Broward County’s biggest children’s agencies.
