There’s plenty to do this month to fill your heart’s content! Learn to paint with watercolors, watch a popular musical, and get your heart pumping while you run during the night!

Feb. 2

Get your adrenaline going at the 2nd Annual Pines Light Up the Night 5K Race/Walk 2019 “Peace, Love & Sole,” held at the Pembroke Pines City Center at 6:30 pm. The event is sponsored by Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc., and the proceeds will benefit the City of Pembroke Pines Charter Schools. Early bird registration is $30 and $40 on the day of the race. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt or tank and an LED light changing bracelet to light up the night. After the run/walk, there will be festivities including free samples of food from local restaurants, free beer for runners 21+, raffles, a live DJ, vendors, and much more!

Feb. 9

If you’re into music, this one’s for you! Schoolhouse Rock is the Emmy Award-winning 1970’s pop culture phenomenon that will come to the musical stage at the Miramar Cultural Center Theater! Tickets cost $15 and if you arrive an hour earlier, you can enjoy free family fun art activities, face painting, selfie stations, and complimentary popcorn! The story begins when a young school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV, when suddenly, the Schoolhouse Rock bunch appear in his home and help him to instruct his students on a variety of subjects including science, math, history, politics, and grammar through a series of classic songs like “Unpack Your Adjectives”, “Just A Bill”, and “Conjunction Junction”. This multimedia treat shows a whole new generation of young people that learning can be as fun as you choose to make it!

Feb. 16

Explore watercolors and bring out the artist within you with artist Teresa Kirk at the Come On In The Water Is Fine Workshop located at Studio 18 in Pembroke Pines at 10:30 am. No need to bring your own brush, materials will be provided for you at the studio. Find the beauty and ease of creating in this exciting medium using watercolors, while the artist touches up on some brush work, textural tricks, and color theory to make that perfect canvas! There is no cost to attend this workshop, but space is limited so reserve your seats early!
