A chill in the air and a lift of your hairs is what makes October special. There’s plenty of goosebump-worthy events going on this month, but if Halloween isn’t your thing, we’ve included other outings that are sure to please! Drink craft beers in Coconut Grove, treat yourself to amazing seafood, or participate in a BBQ competition!
SHRIEK, SCREAM, & SHRILL!
Popcorn Frights is starting off October in a truly frightening way! Wicked Weekend at Savor Cinema will honor 70 years of famed director, John Carpenter, by previewing four of his classic films. The Master of Horror is responsible for creating some of the most famous movies in the spine tingling genre for years like Halloween (1978), Christine (1983), The Thing (1982), and They Live (1998), which will all be screened over the ghostly weekend! Special guests, speakers, and immersive performances will also be there to add to the freaky fun!
The largest beer festival in South Florida, Grovetoberfest, will have a selection of over 500 local craft beers that are sure to have you sipping throughout the day! When you buy a general admission ticket, you get access to 400 unlimited beer samples, live music, and retro 8-bit video games. If you’d like to upgrade your experience, there’s a VIP package that includes 450 unlimited beer samples, a souvenir pint glass, a T-shirt, as well as access to the VIP lounge, specialty beers, and A/C bathrooms. Head out and get into the Groovetoberfest!
I WANT ALL THE SMOKE
Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale is about to get smoky! At the 6th Annual Riverwalk Smoke on the Water BBQ Feast & Competition, savor BBQ dishes starting at $5, sip on refreshing cold beer, and jam out to live music from the West Broward and Coral Springs Schools of Rock! Local pit masters will come out to battle for the title of “Smoke on the Water BBQ Feast Champion,” and activities for the whole family will keep the entertainment going! Pull up some lawn chairs and blankets and prepare for a day of grilled goods!
The 6th Annual South Florida Seafood Festival will bring fresh seafood and live music to Miami Marine Stadium! Chow down on sea delicacies from over 25 gourmet culinary partners, dance to Caribbean beats, enjoy family fun zones, and drink it up at the mojito bars and wine lounges! Fun zones will feature lots to do for the kids like obstacle courses and surfing challenges, and vendors will be on-site with nautical-themed goodies for purchase. You’ll want to ride the wave to MIA for this scrumptious event!
On Halloween weekend be prepared to witness Miami’s most devious scoundrels anchor their ship at Pirates of the Wharf. At this costume party, come dressed as your favorite pirate as you sail away towards a night of drinking and dancing! Enter the costume contest for a chance to win a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne, or, raise your glass at the Wharf’s two open-bar VIP lounges. Live music will blast through the speakers, and eats will be provided by names like King of Racks BBQ, Spris Artisan Pizza, La Santa Taqueria, MOJO Donuts, and more!

Who says you have to be a kid to go trick or treating? Get in on the door-to-door excitement the adult way with the 33rd Street Pub Crawl. Wear your craziest costume, grab some friends, and take to the streets of Fort Lauderdale to enjoy craft cocktails, light bites, and live music the whole night! Participating merchants so far include Mimosa Boutique, Bar Red Beard, Fishtales on 33rd, and 33rd Street Wine Bar, with more yet to be announced! Tickets include the pub crawl pass, a souvenir cup, and a raffle ticket for gift cards from local shops!
